Bachelor's Degree or Higher by Race/Ethnicity
The number of residents with a particular level of education in a region, expressed as a percentage of all residents 25 and older, broken down by race and ethnicity.
Early Prenatal Care by Mother's Race/Ethnicity
The number of births to women who initiated prenatal care during the first trimester of pregnancy (before 13 weeks gestation), expressed as a percentage of all live births within each racial and ethnic group.
Preterm Births
The percentage of babies born 4 weeks before the mother's due date, out of all live births. This means the gestational age of the baby is less than 36 weeks.
Infant Mortality Rate
The number of deaths per 1,000 live births per year for infants under the age of one year, averaged over five years.

The percentage of screened children aged 9 months to 4 years that had confirmed elevated blood lead levels, expressed as a rate per 1,000 children ages 0 to 4.

Child Abuse and Neglect
The number of indicated child abuse or neglect reports, expressed as a rate per 1,000 children under age 18. Indicated reports are those in which there is credible evidence that a child has experienced abuse, neglect or maltreatment from a parent or legal guardian. This includes sexual abuse committed or allowed by a parent or guardian.
Disengaged Youth
The percentage of the population ages 16-19 that is not enrolled in school and not working (either unemployed or not in the labor force).
Live Births to Teen Mothers
The number of babies born to females ages 15 to 19, expressed as a rate per 1,000 females.

The number of arrests of youth ages 12-24 arrested for Group A offenses, expressed per 10,000 youth. Group A offenses include assault, theft, vandalism, homicide, sexual offenses and weapons violations.

The number of establishments in the Arts, Entertainment and Recreation sector, shown as a rate per 10,000 people.

The percentage of the voting-age population (18 and over) that voted in an election.

Contributions to charitable organizations, measured as a percentage of income.
Protected Land
The percentage of acreage in Essex County that is classified as "Protected" under the Massachusetts Land Protection Program.
Days with Good Air Quality
The percentage of days for which air quality was monitored and found to be good, indicating healthy air both for sensitive groups, such as people with asthma, and for the population as a whole. The Air Quality Index (AQI) summarizes levels of ground-level ozone, particulate matter (soot and other particles), carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen dioxide into one measure.
Beach Contamination
The percentage of water samples from public and semi-public (i.e. campgrounds, hotels, country clubs) beaches tested by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health that were found to have greater levels of bacteria than what is considered safe for bathing.
Daily Water Use per Resident
The average amount of water used daily in a geographic area, expressed as a rate per person.

Recidivism
The percentage of released inmates who are re-incarcerated within three years of their release.
Households Without Vehicles
The number of households which do not report having a vehicle kept at the home, available for use, expressed as a percentage of all households.
Means of Transportation to Work
The type of transportation used on a daily basis by workers over the age of 16 who commute to work, expressed as a percentage of all workers who do not work at home.

The number of traffic injuries and deaths in a region, expressed as a rate per 1,000 residents.

The share of people 5 and older in a geographic area who speak a language other than English at home. This includes both people who speak English well and those who do not.

The growth or decline in total jobs, shown as a percentage gain or loss from the previous year.

The amount of revenue brought into a community by self-employment, presented per working-age resident.
